President’s Report
Good day, Holiday Village. There will be a Board of Directors Meeting Saturday, February 21, 2026. The ARA position has been filled with OUTSTANDING INDIVIDUALS. The Board of Directors are still requesting resumes for Treasurer. If anyone is interested, please drop your resume off at the office.
There are several activities for folks to participate here at The Village. There is a Bible Study Wednesday morning at 11:00 am, Chair Yoga Tuesday and Thursday morning at 10:00 am. There is a group working on Crafts Wednesday morning at 10:00 am. There is a list of events on the website.
I would like to include the instructions from our waste management company in my report as the company has switched to side loader trucks and placement of the trash receptacle is important for efficiency.
Dear Valued Customer,
We would like to inform you about a recent change to the equipment servicing your trash cart. We understand that changes can be challenging, so we have carefully considered certain important factors to ensure that our services remain safe, efficient, and beneficial for you and the communities we serve.
To increase operational efficiency, reduce labor costs, and improve worker safety. Automated Side Loaders (ASLs) allow a single driver to operate a robotic arm, eliminating the need for 1-2 extra crew members to manually lift bins. This reduces injuries from heavy lifting, lowers fuel consumption, and speeds up collection times.
Key reasons for the switch include:
-
Enhanced Safety: Workers are not riding on the back of the truck or walking in traffic, significantly reducing risks of "struck-by" accidents and injuries from lifting heavy, repetitive loads.
-
Reduced Labor Costs: An ASL requires only one driver, whereas rear-loaders often require a driver and 1-2 sanitation workers to empty bins.
-
Increased Productivity: Automated arms can complete collections faster, allowing more homes to be serviced per hour.
-
Improved Route Efficiency: Side loaders are generally more maneuverable in residential areas, allowing for better navigation of tight, congested streets.
The wheels and handle should face your house, with the front (opening) of the lid pointing towards the street. Carts must be at least 3 feet away from cars, mailboxes, or other obstacles to allow for automatic arm pickup.
Key Placement Details for Waste Connections:
-
Direction: The handle/wheels face your home, and the lid opening faces the street.
-
Distance Between Carts: Keep at least 3 feet of space between the cart and any other objects (mailboxes, trees, cars).
-
Location: Place on level ground at least 4 feet from the curb, or edge of the street.
-
Spacing: If you have multiple carts (e.g., trash and recycling), keep them 3 feet apart from each other.
-
Lid: Ensure the lid is fully closed.
All Gaston customers are kindly required to utilize our designated carts for services. Effective immediately, we will no longer service personal carts, bins, or barrels. Maintaining proper distances ensures that the automated collection vehicle can efficiently service your bins without interruption or risk of damage to surrounding property. Due to this recent equipment update, we are unable to provide bulk services in your area.
Thank you for your cooperation and continued support
